VoiceOps Screen Privacy
VoiceOps Screen Privacy helps the VoiceOps Windows desktop recorder hide protected browser pages in screen recordings. The extension processes browser URL observations locally and communicates with the installed recorder on the same computer.
Scope
This policy describes the VoiceOps Screen Privacy Chrome extension provided by VoiceOps, Inc., and its local privacy-signal connection to the VoiceOps Windows recorder. The separate desktop recorder handles audio, video, activation and uploads under your organization's VoiceOps configuration and agreements. The extension itself does not record audio or video.
Information the extension handles
- Browser URLs and window state. The extension inspects Chrome windows and tabs to identify the selected tab in each non-minimized window, including windows without focus. It sends the selected tab's current and pending URLs, along with observation validity, to the local native helper. URLs can contain personal information in their path or query string.
- A local profile identifier. The extension generates and stores a random identifier to distinguish Chrome profiles on the computer. It does not use your name, email address or Google account identifier for this purpose.
- Connection and protection status. Temporary status and a check timestamp support the popup display. Protocol sequence numbers help the helper handle updates in order.
The extension does not read webpage text, form fields, passwords, cookies, audio or video, and does not log clicks or keystrokes. It does not query Chrome's saved browsing-history database.
Purpose and local communication
These observations are used only to support screen privacy. Chrome native messaging passes them to the installed VoiceOps native helper on the same computer. The helper compares URLs against the organization's configured privacy rules and reports whether screens should be protected or the observation is uncertain. No separate extension account or sign-in is required.
The extension does not send observed URLs or its profile identifier to a remote service. It contains no advertising or analytics integration. The privacy-signal channel does not transmit webpage contents or recordings.
Storage and retention
URLs are handled in memory for rule evaluation. The extension does not save a browsing history or persist observed URLs in extension storage. The native helper stores local protection decisions and timestamps rather than visited URLs.
The random profile identifier remains in Chrome's local extension storage until that storage is cleared or the extension is removed. Connection status is kept in Chrome session storage rather than as a permanent browsing record. The desktop helper can retain profile-specific protection state separately; removing the extension does not automatically remove the desktop recorder's files, recordings or organization data.
Sharing and limited use
URL observations are passed only to the local VoiceOps native helper to provide the extension's screen-privacy function. Extension-derived browsing data is not sold, used for advertising, used to determine creditworthiness, or transferred for unrelated purposes.
VoiceOps Screen Privacy's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your controls
You can disable or remove the extension through Chrome's extension settings. Doing so stops new observations from that extension instance. A compatible recorder may continue to hide recorded screens when it loses an enrolled extension's privacy signals; disabling the extension does not necessarily stop desktop recording. Contact your organization's administrator for recorder settings, retained recordings and data requests.
The extension requires a compatible VoiceOps Windows recorder. Its Chrome privacy observations do not cover incognito windows, minimized windows, or other browsers.
